Looking Forward to Continued Growth

My journey in the teaching multimedia course has come to an end; however, as a lifelong learner, I intend to continue to develop my technical knowledge and skills. This course introduced me to a variety of multimedia tools and applications and I am grateful that I am at least aware of what’s out there. I see many possibilities to enhance both my newspaper and yearbook publications next school year. I truly look forward to mastering these skills so that I can enrich the knowledge and skills of my students.

As a final project for the Multimedia course, I had to produce a lesson plan coupled with a demonstration tutorial using Camtasia. I found Camtasia to be very user friendly. I am excited to have a platform that I can use to create flipped lessons for my students next year. I will spend more time learning this application over summer break for sure.

Creating Videos with Premiere Pro CC

This week’s assignment put my technical abilities to the test! I had to create a multimedia video using an editing platform of my choice. After some research, I chose to try Adobe premiere Pro and am very pleased with how user friendly working with this application is. premiere Pro CC is a video editing software application that is part of the Adobe Creative Cloud suite. What’s cool about the suite is that along with premiere Pro, I can also use all the Adobe products at a very affordable price with a yearly subscription. The best part is that students and teachers receive a special rate. Click to subscribe to Adobe Creative Cloud.

After recording and collecting several video clips and still photos, I simply dropped my media into the application and began the editing process. Being inexperienced at video editing, I invested time in finding reliable resources to assist me in the process. There are a wealth of resources online, especially on YouTube. As with anything else that is new, it clearly takes practice and having the right resources at your avail to help make the process easier. Here are a few I found helpful for beginners.

I found this video to be beneficial in getting started with learning basic tools and how to use the timeline feature.

Once you’ve completed the basic editing process and completed the video. The next important step is exporting your video to the platform of your choice. I chose YOUTUBE and the converting process was simple.

After publishing my video to YOUTUBE, WordPress offers an easy and compatible process to publishing your video. Simply copy and paste the URL into the visual editor and like magic, your video automatically shows in full screen on your blog.

Overall, I’d recommend using Premier Pro as a simple and user friendly option to edit videos. It does require lots of practice to master the application, so invest the time and you should become a pro in no time.

Learning ‘Cool Tools’

This week’s assignment allowed me to play around quite a bit and I must admit, it was FUN. I created three multimedia tools that I plan to teach my students and incorporate into our school’s news publication. Here are the details about the cool tools I created along with helpful tips to get you started. Enjoy!

Interactive Maps

Integrating interactive maps are a great way to enhance a news story.  I tried both Google Maps and Map Quest. Both were user friendly and simple to maneuver to create maps. However, I give the gold star to Google Maps because I found the embedding process much easier to use than Map Quest.

I am using a WordPress blog and Map Quest’s embed code would not covert to show the image. I had no problem with the embed code when using Google Maps. The process is simple and it’s free!

Interactive Polls

Using interactive polls is another way to incorporate multimedia elements into a news story and capture reader interest. WordPress has a built-in feature for polls that we use in our school’s publication on a regular basis. I used poll daddy for my class assignment. The free forever subscription allows you unlimited polls and works just well for basic use. However, the paid subscription allows you more options.

Interactive Timelines

Tiki Toki Timelines allow you to create visually stunning interactive timelines for your multimedia publication. However, you must purchase a subscription to have access to all the perks such as, adding an image to the timeline. It was easy to sign up for a free subscription; however, I was well into the process of building my timeline before I realized that I didn’t have the option (adding images) that I needed to fulfill the requirements if my assignment. Still, Tiki Toki is very user friendly and basic timeline works well for simple projects. Click to download Tiki Toki

Diptiy Timelines is also user friend and simple to use. Free subscribers can add images which is cool. However, free accounts are not allowed access to embed codes to transfer data to a website. Click to download Dipity. I was a little disappointed, but both programs allow you a lot of benefits at the free level. Click to download Dipity
